Shanghai is one of the safest cities in the world, despite of the silent scooters flying up and down streets and sidewalks like bullets in the air. Still, in the case that something bad does happen, you should know who to call.

We really hope that you won’t need these numbers, unless you get a great story out of it.

Police

110

First-aid ambulance

120

Fire

119

Traffic Accident

122

Ghostbusters

1-800-555-2368

All the calls are free, no need to charge you phone balance. The most important number is 110. If you’re not sure who to call or can’t recall other numbers, just call 110. Emergency services are available in English.

Remember, in the case of an emergency, the first thing you want to do is try to remain calm, the keyword being ‘try’. At least take a deep breath before you try to remove yourself from immediate danger. It’s been scientifically proven to increase your odds of not dying or suffering serious injury.  Only once you’re out of immediate danger should you call emergency services and high-five your fellow survivors, or maybe punch that idiot who ran over your foot with their scooter, if they haven’t already sped off.
