What were you going to do this weekend? Read a book? Practice the zither? Do your laundry? Pssshhhhh.

Make this weekend another one you wish you could remember.

1. Soul Crates Presents: Kid Koala @ Shelter

When: Friday 27 November, 10pm-5am

Where: Basement of 5 Yongfu Lu, near Fuxing Xi Lu (永福路5近复兴西路)

Cover: 100rmb

Last time I saw Kid Koala, he jumped off the stage and into the crowd, right in front of me, and he asked myself and a few chosen others to partake in the ‘bird hands’. Sadly, I was too shocked to partake, even though he couldn’t have been more inviting with his fur suit. Please forgive me, Kid Koala. Please learn from my sin, fellow music lovers. When Kid Koala jumps off the stage and asks you to do ‘bird hands’ with him, just do the ‘bird hands’.

Seriously, though, he’s a turntable legend that’s toured with Deltron, Beastie Boys, DJ Shadow, Radiohead, and many other music gods. Do what the Kid Koala says.

2. Masquerade @M1NT

When: Friday 27 November

Where: M1NT Tower 318 Fuzhou Road (福州路31824)

Cover: Free entrance until 00:30 if you RSVP to, or 100rmb

Dress code: Venetian Masquerade

M1NT, in collaboration with MVP, takes escapism to a new level with Masquerade. Reminiscent of the decadent Venetian Carnival, the event will see M1NT transformed into a majestic palace. Adorned with elaborate masks, feathers and capes, guests will party together unaware of whether they are dancing with a friend, a movie star, or their mother.

3. Yuksek, Juveniles @ Bar Rouge

Hyuk-hyuk-hYuksek. Yuksek, a true artist in electropop. Juveniles, magicians who pull the pop idealism rabbit out of their hats. Together they will usher you into a world of pop that will tickle your dance bone (warning to those with boneitis.). And don’t forget Bar Rouge’s great vibes, great drinks, and great views of the Bund.

4. Arkham Presents | Black Butter Records Showcase ft. MY NU LENG & WOZ

When: Saturday 28 November

Where: Arkham Shanghai, 1 Wulumuqi Lu (乌鲁木齐路1)

Cover: 100rmb (WeChat follow for 80rmb tickets!)

My NuLeng, which just produced two releases with Black Butter Records, consists of members Tommy and Jammo, who hail from Kent and High Wycombe respectively. Their dark, moody vibe is undeniably danceable, and they make sure that each set brings something entirely new to the table.

Woz is the youngster of Black Butter Records, at only 20 years old. But don't let his age fool you; he has been releasing beats to great reception ever since his remix of Rudimental's "Feel The Love" with Childish Gambino went viral a couple years back.

5. Stache Pub Crawl @ Bar Gatsby

When: Saturday 28 November, 9:30PM

Where: Starting @ Bar Gatsby, 488 Dagu Road (大沽路488)

More info at

Movember is here, meaning the mustaches are in (for better or worse)! Break out your best stache (if ‘best is the right word…), and get ready to roll squad deep. Hit four of Shanghai’s best bars as you enjoy an hour of open bar, free shots along the way, and great drink specials on Pub Crawl Shanghai’s bumpin’ party bus. Just remember to keep your stache free of beer foam and other debris.

6. The Mansion Three Year Anniversary

Don’t listen to your conscience; you will never be too old for house parties, especially when the house is a mansion with a pool and sandy patio. The Mansion celebrates three years of raves and wild nights this Saturday.
