Why do you think Strip and Browhaus have been so attractive to the Shanghai population?
Our services are so highly needed in Shanghai because there are so many expats here who have been waxing since the age of 15, 16. There are salons that do waxing but they don't specialize like we do. Also, many of our customers have heard of us first in Singapore and trust our standards of hygiene.
Which has proved more popular: Strip or Browhaus?
I would say Browhaus. I think it's more accepted. Waxing is just not in Chinese culture. They are getting used to it but it's still not as widely accepted as in the West. Eyebrows are more visible and you will look prettier and more confident with the perfect brow.
What is the most popular wax that men and women get?
I think for ladies, they will definitely do the upper lip and the under arm. For men, the stomach is most common, but also the chest and the back.
What is the most essential wax?
For me, the most essential wax is the Brazilian. I do it every month. If you do it, you feel so much cleaner down there!
Are there any special products you stock that would reduce post-wax irritation?
We have a development and research department in Singapore and they are constantly searching for better ways to reduce irritation. Strip X'ed Out Cream helps to prevent in-grown hair using pineapple enzyme and tea tree oil. Strip Ice Cream is good for soothing irritation, and it's anti-inflammatory. These two are our own products but we do stock other products as well that we think are good. For example, Malin+Goetz; this is particularly good for the sensitive bikini area.
At the moment, your stores in Mainland China are centered solely in Shanghai. Any plans to move to other cities?
Actually, we're planning to expand very soon, in Beijing and Guangzhou.
What do you do to enjoy Shanghai?
I like walking around the city - the French Concession, SiNan Lu. There are a lot of trees and I love the area around SiNan Mansions.
