In a city defined by the hustle and bustle of its citizens, it is often easy to forget to find time to relax. Thankfully, for those of us in need, Shanghai is home to many spas, and among them is Venus Spring Japanese spa. Tucked away in a secluded street near Jiashan Market, Venus Spring is not your typical place of relaxation.

Clients are welcomed in this tranquil, unpretentious haven by friendly staff, soothing music, and an array of Japanese organic teas. The spa itself is well decorated in a combination of Chinese and Japanese style, which attests to the overall feel of the environment created. Among the treatments offered are a non-invasive collagen "face lift" and a calming oil body massage (clients can pick the oils themselves), but one of the best things about Venus Spring is its superb cleanliness, an element that owner Nana Zhang prides herself on.

Zhang takes every measure to ensure her clients are as comfortable and relaxed as possible, supplying each meticulously designed room with heated floors and air purifiers so they can temporarily lose themselves in the calming environment. The staff is professional, and willfully helps each client achieve the state of relaxation that they go there for.

Venus Spring offers a wide range of affordable services personally tailored to fit the needs of each individual client, and everything- from the tea to the collagen sprays- is imported directly from Japan. So, whether it is an hour-long foot massage or a slimming diet massage that is desired, Venus Spring will go the distance to make sure clients leave happy, and of course, peaceful. But come ready for some serious relaxing: Venus Spring practices a strict no cell phone (and no shoes) policy.
