Cantonese cuisine

Cha's Cantonese Restaurant

The Soya Chicken, Beef Curry Rice and the Stir Fried Prawns with Egg are just three of the many dishes that should be tried at Cha. The Soya Chicken is HEAVENLY: the tender meat just melts in your mouth, it's definitely fresh chicken - and the accompanying sauce has just enough flavor to compliment, but not overpower the natural taste of the meat. I can't wait to try their Salty Baked Chicken!

I plan on visiting this restaurant once a week and trying every item on the menu! The food really is authentic Cantonese food at its best - it's the only place I've found in Shanghai where the food is on a par with my dad's cooking: dad's been a Cantonese cuisine Chef for the past 30 years and once co-owned a restaurant in London's Chinatown and is now the Chef at a popular Chinese restaurant in Southwest London.

Though the décor is outdated and typical of the café/restaurant popular in Hong Kong a few decades ago, it's clean and cosy. There was a 9-table wait (about 20mins) before we were seated, but Cha is the kind of restaurant where, once you've finished eating, you pay the bill and leave. Three dishes between the three of us came to about RMB30 each. Drinks wise, try the lemon and honey drink for just over RMB10, it's refreshing and isn't full of artificial preservatives.

Delicious, affordable genuine Cantonese food. It's a must-try restaurant for all food-lovers.
