City Shop's Spanish Saturdays
Bringing some Iberian style to Shanghai, the six-month-old City Shop TianShan Store celebrated its "Spanish Food Festival Opening Ceremony" last Saturday, June 25. Starting with a professional and very passionate flamenco dance performance, this event touched on the heart of Spanish culture and gave visitors an authentic, atmospheric experience.
Little stands lined the area, providing cocktails, Parma ham cooking shows and tastings, followed by a delicious Spanish lunch buffet, also somewhat of a spectacle, with chefs cooking in an open kitchen - in many ways, the day felt like one long, rambunctious performance, with traditional dishes like Paella, garlic shrimps and Spanish omelets all served up with a flourish.
This event heralds the collaboration between City Shop and a pair of Spanish food suppliers, Extenda and Andalucia. Future cooking shows (also at the TianShan Road branch) are scheduled for at least the next two Saturdays, on July 2 and July 9, 11am-1pm.
Everything on display is made from high-quality Spanish and Mediterranean ingredients, not just to imitate but to create with exactitude some true Spanish flavors. Beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are diverse, from white and red wine, beer and cocktails to juice and soda. And for a cool ending? A free choice of ice cream from the fresh ice-cream parlor.
Enjoy and olé!
