Friday Night Blog

You guys have read my nightlife articles, but now it's time to give you an inside look into how I get down on a Friday night in Shanghai.
Last Monday, Mattia Visconti, one of Shanghai's top promoters, asked me if I would like to help promote his upcoming Flower Power party at Bar Rouge. I spent the next few days going out wearing my signature panda hat getting numbers and inviting people to the party. By the time Friday came around, my partner and I realized that we had enough interest to organize a party bus for the evening.
Friday night we rolled up to both FuDan and Dong Hua universities, picked up a couple hordes of international students and took them over to C's for some cheap, subterranean raging. Once people were sufficiently inebriated we took the crew across town to the Bund while dancing on the bus' middle aisle to the tunes of Otis Redding and Skrillex.
Wearing a bright neon Jimi Hendrix headband and an baggy, purple nylon shirt, I realized I was one of the only patrons at the upscale bar not dressed in a button down or sexy black dress. However, this fact did not deter me from busting out my craziest of dance moves. My antics were wild enough to grab the attention of a predominantly Chinese group that showered me in test tube shooters and then won me a spot at a table of Turkish and French ballers. After running around the club some more, I rocked out with a group of cute Israelis who offered me RMB1000 to "dance" at their bachelorette party the next day. I gave them my card but they never called... All in a Friday night, dear Watson, all in Friday night.

robwallace: Hey violet, tonight I throwing a party starting at 88 (Donghu lu and Xinle lu) between 9-11pm where we get free bottles and tables. Then we are taking a party bus (free alcohol provided) to Bar Rouge where we get free entrance for their 'I Love the 80's' party. I'll be easy to spot in 88 with my purple punk wig. See you there!Saturday, Oct 08
chiviolet23: Found your blog and my first thought was that there is a guy version of me out there in China! I'm actually moving to Shanghai on Wednesday (10/5) and will be partying it up on the weekend. My friend Anastasia promotes for a few people and we had a night out like that in June at Sugar, then went to Mint. I've been in the bar biz in Chicago for 5 years so if you have any advice for a newcomer to the party scene there let me know what's good. Maybe we can have a dance-off! Ganbei!Friday, Sep 30
