Smoking or non?

Our very first poll question several months ago asked if you would be interested in going to a nightclub event that was strictly non-smoking. Of a total 68 respondents, 44 said yes they would. That was encouraging as our idea at the time was to determine whether EnjoyClassifieds could host a non-smoking only event, and would the non-smokers come out to support it. I was hoping to call it The Pink Lung Party. Only 9 of you said you would not attend if it was the last party on earth.

That was right around the time I quit smoking and was flush with the zeal of the newly converted. Since then I have discovered, to my amazement and awe, that non-smokers are absurdly tolerant of smokers. (As a smoker, I was too busy smoking to notice.) I think I'm right in saying that non-smokers significantly outnumber smokers, so why does the idea of non-smoking only nightclub event still seem like an insane idea.

In the comments below I hope you'll let us know if you would you support a non-smoking only party event, at a decent club with a big name DJ? And by support, I mean would you pay for tickets?

And don't forget to tell us in today's poll whether you smoke or not! Scroll down to about the middle of the home page and look for The Poll. Thanks!

*Update - April 16*

We're at 73 poll responses so far - about 67% of EnjoyClassifieds readers who are inclined to respond to online polls are non-smokers. I'm wishing now we had offered a third response option for those 'non-smokers' who only smoke when they drink.

Thanks to those of you who replied, and to respond to bobforest who commented below: Relax! Have a cigarette or something. We were only talking about holding a single, one-off nightclub event. For the record, I don't support the notion that restaurants and bars are 'public' places. If a restaurant owner wants to cater to smokers only, that's fine with me. It seems to me that a 67% majority ought to have the economic clout to affect change without resorting to government regulation.
