Yan can cook!

Proving that he can indeed cook, Chef Martin Yan showcased his culinary skills for an intimate audience in the kitchen of City Super last night. I was joined by a of number journalists, long time fans and curious shoppers, who all crammed themselves into City Super’s kitchen just to get a glimpse, whiff and taste of the master’s new recipes.

Yan was joined by right hand woman and City Super’s executive Chef, Charmaine Cheung. Between Yan’s expertise and Cheung’s passion, the duo cooked up a storm! And all the while revealed their tricks of the trade in interchanging English and Chinese. The smells of pan- fried sirloin got too much at one point and I had to ease my stomach grumbles with the provided champagne and antipasti. Not that you can complain about that!

While chopping up an onion and grating a carrot, Yan and Cheung explained the importance of fresh and seasonal ingredients. I learned that the trick to creating a first class meal may not be a professional’s skill, but in fact quality produce. Which incidentally was available in the plenty at City Super!
