Pulling up to D.G.B., the new upscale French restaurant just outside the city center, I knew it was going to be a magical evening. The restaurant glowed from across the pond as we approached, zip-zagging across the light lined bridge.
The interior design features a posh purple and white interior, a high central ceiling with light fixtures changing colors, and fun swanky music emanating from the DJ booth in the corner. The upscale feeling balances nicely with the playful design, creating a really interesting and exciting ambience.
The tastes were just as unique. Chef Frank, one of the two French chefs heading up the menu at D.G.B., prepared a nice tasting for us that evening. The amuse-bouche was a fois gras mouse, served in a small shot glass and a pastry bite accompanying it. It was delicate, surprisingly creamy, and the perfect introduction to the food that evening. Next our soup selections arrived at the table. Mine was a fish and crustacean soup (68RMB) while my dining companion's was an onion soup served with a grilled garlic French baguette. Next my companion had a delectable salmon gravelax with dill cream and a Grey Goose Vodka sherbert (88RMB), while I sampled the marbled goose liver with semi-sweet Cluizel chocolate. This sounded better than it actually was; it was a little too heavy for my taste. However, the next hot appetizer course was superb. Both the pan-seared scallops flambéed with Cognac (98RMB) and the Chanterelle and Morel raviolis cooked on the Placha and drizzled with a foamy truffle sauce (98RMB) were perfectly prepared. For the main course, we were amused by the entertaining presentation of the Sea-bream in a salt crust (198RMB). The presentation was as beautiful as the fish tasted, light, delicate and highly recommendable.
The Bottom Line: This upscale French restaurant has great food, a fun ambiance, and the perfect atmosphere for entertaining guests.
