Incorporating the 3 main components of the Shanghai lifestyle Orang 3 will offer much more than just a great dining experience. With its mantra of ‘3at, Drink Liv3', this new venue also hopes to provide customers with a multi-purpose bar, artfully surrounded with unique oil paintings for purchase by local artists. Also, with an eye to encompass lifestyle products and home furnishings from around Asia, Orang 3 has set its sights high. Until that time, the food here gives you more than enough to focus on.
This restaurant may be new and a first of its kind but it confidently exudes a great sense of place; both taste and style are perfectly intertwined through intricate detail in design and cuisine. Fresh lime green colour schemes and deep mahogany furnishings create the perfect precursor to the pan-Asian compilations created in the kitchen. Experienced chef, Grace, who once made Rijisttafel great, now has free reign in the Orang kitchen. Her creativity and experience shine in the dishes served here. The recipes are tempered so that the combination of textures and flavours are masterfully measured and mixed to maximize their overall impact. Ngoh Hiang Pork roll exemplified this, with large chunks of water chestnut paired with coarsely chopped spring onions, minced pork and shrimp in a thin coating that's sliced open to divulge its key ingredients. Tender Beef Satay with Lemon Grass and Blue Ginger is served with a peanut sauce you could eat by the spoonful 48RMB. Singapore Fried Prawn Noodles was a gargantuan plate of thick yellow stir-fried noodles, bean sprouts and crispy shallots with a killer chili paste accompaniment 48RMB. Portions are so generous appetizers could easily double up as mains. A long-lasting favourite was the irresistible simplicity of the toasted dessert. Milky toasted bread is served with frozen butter and addictively sweet Pandan jelly. If you're a foodie fasting in Shanghai suburbia Orang 3 will floor you with their finely tuned food, depth of flavour and fantastic finish.
