Love is out there: everywhere you look, Shanghai is celebrating romance, and there are certainly some great ways to show you care, in restaurants and hotels all over the city.

The InterContinental Shanghai Expo, located in PuDong, with a stunning view over the LuPu Bridge, is offering some really wonderful dinner, spa and overnight stay packages which will leave your beloved in no doubt as to the sincerity of your passion.

On the first floor restaurant Café 1188, a special "Love is in the Air" sumptuous seafood buffet dinner at RMB688 net per couple, accompanied by a glass of champagne, will set the tone for romance. This chic café style restaurant overlooks the gardens, where an after-dinner liqueur can be sipped at the ‘Liquor Factory' bar, set up in a cleverly restored 1930s villa situated in the grounds of the hotel.

Alternatively, the "Romance of Italy" menu at the hotel's elegant Italian trattoria, Basilico, will set the scene for "amore", at RMB888 net per couple, including a glass of Prosecco. Chef Roberto Mancini has put together a taste of Italy that will certainly impress. Don't get carried away with the seafood antipasti, as you will need room for five courses of Italian classics: the crab and truffle salad, and the risotto with lamb shank and bone marrow are standouts.

If you can't move for food, then make a night of it and book one of the gorgeous rooms in the hotel, with some indulgent treatments at the heavenly spa. Special room rates start at RMB888 net per night including romantic treats and breakfast for two.

The "Celebration" spa package is great value at RMB980 net per couple and includes chocolates, champagne, and three spa experiences over two hours, in the ultra relaxing and luxurious double treatment suites.

For those "popping the question", the truly glamorous experience of a night in an historical villa or the Presidential Suite with dinner, breakfast, butler, limo service, spa treatments and special gifts is just the ticket - if you can afford the hefty RMB18,888.

The InterContinental is one of those hotels where you are really made to feel cosseted and cared for by the staff. Enjoy the romantic and luxurious getaway, without leaving the city.
