Madame Tussauds Shanghai, which was opened to the public in 2006, is the sixth in the world. It is located on the tenth floor of the New World Plaza on West Nanjing Road. Shanghai beat thirty other candidate cities by taking advantage of local celebrities and the extensive market outlook.
Marie Tussaud was born in Strasbourg, France, and was famous for her wax making skills. Her most remarkable work is the wakefulness of the French author Voltaire. In 1835, when she was 74 years old, Madame Tussauds (formerly Spelled Madame Tussauds) settled in London, which became an important tourist destination. In addition to Shanghai, it has other branches in several other major cities such as Hong Kong, Wuhan, Beijing, Chongqing, Amsterdam, New York, and Las Vegas.
